Jerry Alan Long, 73, of Polo, Missouri, passed away on December 18th, 2025 in Cameron, Missouri. Jerry was born on August 15th, 1952 to Jerry L. and Betty (Libby) Long in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he grew up with his sister Lee Ann. Jerry graduated from Benton High School with the class of 1970, then attended Missouri Western State University before joining the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Florida, serving as an Avionics Instrument Systems Specialist from 1973 to 1977. The early part of his career included working on planes returning from the Vietnam War. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jerry began his career in pest control. He most recently worked for over 25 years for Presto X Exterminators in Kansas City, until his retirement, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
In his retirement, Jerry found peace at Hide-a-way Lake in Polo, Missouri, where he met many friends and as well as his beloved wife, Tracy (Lyon). Jerry and Tracy were united in marriage on October 30th, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, immediate and extended, and friends. He could often be found relaxing with his dogs on his front porch or at an evening campfire near his home, enjoying the peaceful surroundings. He also loved making new memories on cross country road trips, with some notable locations including Las Vegas; Grand Canyon; Winslow, Arizona, New Orleans; and Florida. Jerry and Tracy shared many trips to Branson, Missouri, where the couple would travel to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.
Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Jerry L. and Betty Long, and his beloved dog, Kylie.
Survivors of Jerry are: his wife Tracy, who survives of the home, sister Lee Ann Long, daughters Sarah (Marc) Evason and Misty (Kevin) Bogart, grandchildren Liam and Lincoln Evason and Zoey and Logan Bogart, niece Libby Long, stepchildren Jordyn (Trint) Erich and Jaxson Erich, step grandchildren Jameson and Rowyn Penland. Additional survivors include his mother and father-in-law Carolyn and Harry Lyon, sister-in-law Tammy (Izaak) Cox, numerous cousins, extended family, and friends, and lastly, his cherished dogs Daisy and Buster, and cat Ginger.
Jerry has been cremated under the care and direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel.
A celebration of life with full military honors will be held on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel at 3609 Frederick Avenue St. Joseph, Missouri starting at 2:00 PM. Family will receive friends in visitation from 1-2:00 PM, before the celebration of life. Officiating the celebration of life is Jerry's dear friend, Christeen Cardiff.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to be directed to the family or in care of Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel for the family.
The Celebration of Life will be livestreamed/recorded.

So sorry to hear about Jerry. Jerry was a very good friends of my late husband Johnny Johnson and myself for many years. I lost track of Jerry when my husband passed away in 2011.
