James Leonard Mckeithan, age 65, was taken by an angel to his heavenly home on May 5, 2021. He was born in Bladen County, North Carolina on March 11, 1956. Jim was the son of the late James and Artie McKeithan.
Jim received his high school education at Clarkton High School in Clarkton, North Carolina and went on to receive his masters degree at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He also served his country with dignity and pride for 33 years combined, and during Dessert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged in 2007 after serving his term in the United States Army, and continuing his career as he transitioned into a federal civilian role. Jim is survived by 2 children Jida and Jonathan McKeithan. Additionally 6 grandchildren; Aiden Bryanjames, Ariana Brylee, Alexander Bryanjames, Amelia James Mckeithan, Arielle and Jose. He is also survived by 4 siblings Mildred, Kenneth, Kareem, and Marsha; as well has a host of nieces, nephews, and one aunt.
After experiencing such a loss, we are grateful to celebrate the grand life of “papi” and a brother like Jim. We are all so fortunate to have someone so valuable in our hearts to miss. He was kind, loving and a friend to all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished and kept alive through his legacy.
Passions of his include being an avid runner and cyclist. Jim will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his wildly entertaining stories, his powerful testimony, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile, and his willingness to come at anytime of night to help any neighbor in need, and then lie about having already been awake.
A funeral survive is scheduled for 9 am on Friday March 18, 2022 at Arlington National Cemetery, followed by a remembrance brunch at Patton Hall Community Club and Conference Center, 1030 am - 1 pm.

I just found out about Jim’s passing today. Jim worked for me during our combat deployment in support of Operations Enduring/Iraqi Freedom.
COL Patti Tackett connected me with him literally a week before he was originally scheduled to retire in 2001 to fill out our USAR support team at Third Army to deploy to Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom. He gladly and unselfishly agreed to postpone his retirement.
He was a great soldier, person. He was mostly quiet and reserved but had a wicked sense of humor. Always professional, courteous and of paramount importance to him was taking care of soldiers. He was the first person I sent into Afghanistan to take care of Reserve Component issues of our soldiers who were ‘down range’. I will miss him tremendously as will others.

Jim was and will always be my true love. I will always love him and his family. Jim and I used to walk many hours together between 12 and 15 hours every weekend. One Day on December 23, his son’s birthday, we walked 30 miles. It was so beautiful. We talked the whole way.
I miss him so much. He always gave me great advice also about work or health. I will carry his love and memories throughput my life. May the family find comfort in knowing, Jim was saved and he is now with God. I always told him how much I love his daughter and son. Jida and Jonathan and his grandchildren. May God continue to bless you all. I send my deepest condolences with love.

Jim was a co-worker and one of my favorite people to talk to. He always had a smile and an answer to any question. He set an example to everyone in the office as to how to be kind and helpful. No matter the task, he did it with a smile and good attitude. I will always remember how he made me feel welcome as a new employee at the office.

Jim was a skilled warrior, a true patriot, and a faithful and great friend. His leadership and presence at Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve was recognized and appreciated by his colleagues and the members of the Guard and Reserve whom he served. We all celebrate his life and his contributions to our country. He has left us too soon... he will be missed...
