James Mays Obituary

James A. “Jim” Mays, age 72, entered the gates of Heaven Monday, July 25th at Princeton Community Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Born August 6, 1949, in Pikeville, Kentucky, he was the son of late Leroy and Evelyn Mays. He dedicated his life to the Lord on October 11, 2020. He was a graduate of Man High School. He graduated from Fairmont State with an associate degree in Business. He spent majority of his life working as a loan officer for New People’s Bank in Princeton, which he enjoyed. Following retirement, he went to work as a salesman for Ramey’s Auto Sales.  He was a family man, and he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything. He had a passion for fishing and hunting and was die-hard West Virginia Mountaineer fan. He touched so many lives in so many different ways. We will deeply miss his beautiful, warm, and contagious smile. To us, he will always be our pawpaw and our buddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Mays, and his sister, Sandra Marcus. Those left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of 43 years, Cathy Mays; son, Johnny Mays (Amber) of Clarksburg, WV; daughter, Amy Mays (Kenny) of Kannapolis, NC; siblings: Billy Mays of Lundale, WV, Ada Lowe of Accoville, WV, Debra Robinson of Accoville, WV, Denny Mays of Man, WV, Teresa Belcher of Claremont, NC, and Cora Staten of Accoville, WV; grandchildren: Mariah Gawthrop (Travis) of Bridgeport, WV, Desiree Mays (Kevin) of Brushfork, WV, John Tyler Mays of Clarksburg, WV, Destiny Mays (Bradley) of Bluefield, WV, Derrick Mays of Kannapolis, NC, and Alyssa Binegar (Hunter) of Clarksburg, WV; great-grandchildren: Ciara Mays, My’Aiara Mays, Brycen Gawthrop, Tavion Mays, Micah Mays, Ma’Kih Mays, Ma’Kel Mays, Emry Gawthrop, Ka’Mya Mays, Kaiden Carter, Layne Gawthrop, and Jerchio Mays; and a host of nieces and nephews.

His celebrating of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Bill Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Bluewell. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday.
