James "Jim" Hill Obituary

Obituary

James “Jim” Hill, 70

Jim passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, December 6th, 2021.

Jim was born on November 2, 1951, in Virginia, MN to Arno and Edna (Pesonen) Hill.  He lived in Biwabik, MN and attended kindergarten there before moving with his family to Hoyt Lakes, MN.  He graduated from Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School in 1970.  He worked at Erie Mining during his senior year and after graduation before joining the U.S Navy.  While in the service he was stationed in Italy and Norfolk, VA.  After his discharge he returned home and worked at Erie.

After some time working at the Mine he decided to head out West.  His funds were running low and he made it as far as Blackfoot.  He never left, making Blackfoot his permanent home.  He held several jobs while in Blackfoot including buying and managing Joe’s Bar in Pingree, Tibbitts Cattle Company, and most recently MacKay Livestock in Idaho Falls.  Jim thoroughly enjoyed working with people.  He absolutely loved to visit with his friends and family.

Jim met and married Danette Hernandez.  They were married November 25, 1989.

Jim was an avid fisherman and soon had Danette “hooked” on the sport. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Alaska.  He and Danette settled into the routine of traveling in the 5th Wheel spending summers in Montana, Minnesota, and the Oregon Coast.  Jim had a phenomenal memory.  His ability to remember names and dates was amazing.  If you met Jim once, he always remembered your name and when he saw you last and where.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Danette; mother-in-law Billie Hernandez; brother-in-law Tony (Bernie) Hernandez; sister Karen (Randy) Reigstad, Patricia Baxmann, Jeannette Johnson; brother Jerry (Sue) Hill and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Glen Baxmann, Keith Johnson and nephew Robbie Reigstad.

The family is under the care of Hawker Funeral Home. No services are planned at this time.  A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.

Dear Sweet Danette, We are so very sorry for your loss! Our Dear Friend Jim will be so very missed by so many including us! We’ll miss our special visits, hours of fishing, playing cards, Great Fishing Derbies that Jim was the very best at planning & preparing, no matter how much time & effort it took! Jim was always so willing to do the job & do it well! Jim always had a good joke & a great story to share! We always admired how willing he was to do for others, being a great friend to so many & taking such good care of you & your dear Mother, Billy! Taking you to warmer weather every year in the Winter & bringing you both back home in Blackfoot for warm seasons! Never complaining, but glad he could help those he loved so. We’re sure going to miss him in so many ways! You can never have enough friends in this crazy life, and we were so thankful to call Jim one of the best for sure! May the good memories carry you all through this difficult time is our prayer for sure! We love you & please don’t ever hesitate to let us know if there is anything you need! We would be more than happy to do anything needed, be it small or large! We will always be here for you & your Dear Mother! We love you both so much!
