Passed away peacefully on Monday October 18, 2021 at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Mr. Townsend Served in the United States Marine Corps and is a Vietnam Veteran. He is also a purple Heart Recipient. After his time in the USMC, Gary went to work for GM Hydromatics Willow Run for 20 Years. Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years Nancy “Stephenson” Townsend also of Belleville, MI; two sons: Mark Townsend of Belleville, MI and Gary D. Townsend Jr. of Belleville, MI; three granddaughters: Lillian, Hazel and Kloye and two great grandchildren. Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Townsend and Pearl “Higgins” Townsend and one daughter Kimberly Ann Townsend. A burial of cremated remains will be Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI 48442 at 10:00 AM.
