She was born August 9, 1918 in Haleyville, Alabama to William “Riley” Lunsford and Alma Cook Lunsford.
Ernie loved to work in the yard, especially in her flower beds. She also loved to sew. As a young woman, she made most of the clothing for her and her daughter. She also developed a love for quilting and crocheting.
Ernie was always very strong and healthy. Other than a baby aspirin and multivitamin, the only medication she took was for her low thyroid.
In 1952, she and her family moved to California where she spent 20 years working for Ratner’s, which at the time was the largest men’s clothing manufacturer on the west coast. There she was soon promoted to supervisor over shipping. After moving to Oklahoma in 1972, she went to work for Komar & Sons. She was there for about twelve and a half years before retiring.
Ernie was a very strong believer in Jesus. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Krebs, a member of the Centenarian Club of Oklahoma, and regularly attended the Stipe Senior Center. Ernie was a world traveler, taking many steps around the globe. She got her first passport at the age of 82, and then traveled to 57 countries as well as most of the states in the United States with her daughter, Wilma.
After being married for 59 and a half years and then being widowed for 17 years, she married Charles Allison on her 93rd birthday. She had a little over 10 wonderful years with Charles lovingly by her side.
Ernie is preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, her first husband: Clyde West, their son: Kenneth Ray West, and one grandson: Kenneth Raymond West.
