Ellen Edwards Futrell, 75 years old, of Calabash, NC, passed away on May 13, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice in Brunswick County.
Ellen was born in Wilmington, NC to Henry W. Edwards and Ruth S. Harker on May 20, 1946. She was one of 11 children and was from Seagate but lived many years in Okeechobee, FL. She returned to NC in 2020 to be near her family.
She was a Christian and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A true free spirit, who marched to the beat of her own drum, Ellen made an impact on everyone she met. Ellen’s love for her family and friends was immeasurable. She enjoyed giving gifts to others and especially liked shopping on Amazon and QVC.
In addition to her parents, Ellen is preceded in death by her son, George “Bubba” Futrell, brothers Cecil, David, Charlie, Thomas, and George Edwards, sisters Minnie Faircloth, Margaret Butler, and Mary Tartt.
She is survived by a daughter Virginia, sisters Doris Long and Jackie Ward (Frank), a special niece and caregiver for over 20 years, Phyllis McGee, her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Brunswick County for the care and compassion they showed Ellen and her family. Memorials may be given to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice Center.
A private memorial service will be planned at a later date.

My mother was a wonderful lady she loved the Lord with all her heart. I know she's in the father's hands now and that gives me peace I love my mother and I will always be thinking of her and miss her.

Saddened to hear of her passing. I remember her from many years ago when she came to Jacksonville, Fla to visit my mother, Flo Lindgard who was her half sister. Love and prayers to each of you.

Aunt Ellen I will always cherish these past 2 years that you have lived right around the corner. You were such a wonderful aunt who always made sure WE had some “little tucked” away extras when we visited. I love and miss you tremendously.
