Dorothy LeGrand Obituary

On Sunday, February 27, 2022, Dorothy Elaine (Hill) LeGrand passed away peacefully at Boone Hospital surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on July 6, 1942 to Harry and Hertha (Wilson) Hill on the Adams farm just south of Clarence, MO. Dorothy married Jimmie Lee LeGrand on May 22, 1965 in Shelbina, MO.

Dorothy is survived by her siblings, Darliene Murphy, Charles Hill, Judy Berlin, Harry Hill, Jr., and Larry Hill; her seven children, Roy (Rebecca) LeGrand of Columbia, MO, Jimmie LeGrand, Jr. of Moberly, MO, Mary Jane Salmon of Moberly, MO, Sabrina (Roger) Sydenstricker of Dallas, TX, Tamara (Robert) Deiro of Santa Ana, CA, Aundrea LeGrand (roommate Ginger Tipton) of Moberly, MO, and Aaron (Michelle) LeGrand of Higbee, MO; her fourteen grandchildren, Grant Glover, Isaac LeGrand, Rachel Storm, Lacey Glover, Cole Glover, Charity LeGrand, Ryan Colwick, Kameron Colwick, Amber Price, Lauren Colwick, James LeGrand, Jordan LeGrand, Alexandra LeGrand, and Garrett Deiro. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Dorothy was a farm wife in all aspects. She raised the babies, cooked the meals, and worked right alongside her husband in the fields. She took care of anybody and everybody and by doing so she became a mom to many children other than her own. She was her children and grandchildren’s biggest fan. She never missed a recital, performance, or a sporting event. She was a Cub Scout master, Girl Scout leader, and whirly birds leader. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.

Once her children were grown she went to work at the Salt River Nursing home where she impacted many lives with her caring and compassionate attitude. After she moved to Moberly in 2001 and lost her husband, she went to work as a paraprofessional at North Park Elementary alongside her daughter Aundrea who taught kindergarten there. She enjoyed being an adopted Grandma to all the children and relished in helping them learn and watching them flourish. After retirement she watched her great grandchildren and enjoyed spoiling them at every opportunity.

Dorothy’s faith in God was immeasurable and she was not shy about making sure everyone knew her God. She was a member of the Shelbina Christian Church when she lived in Shelbina and after moving to Moberly she joined Timberlake Christian Church. Her church family was a huge part of her later years and she thoroughly immersed herself in being an active member of several church groups and bible study groups.

Dorothy was one of the strongest women you’d ever meet. She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Large B Cell Lymphoma in 2007 and she beat it. She was diagnosed with Carcinoma skin cancer and then Lobular Breast Cancer in 2013. She beat Cancer three times with dignity and poise. When she was told in February 2021 that the Lobular Breast Cancer had returned, she set about being a survivor once again. She never felt sorry for herself or questioned God’s plan, she was the epitome of strength, even when her loved ones were not.

Dorothy’s family was her greatest accomplishment. She fought with unbridled courage to stay with us for as long as she could. She wanted to keep watching her babies grow, but now she will do so as our guardian angel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Bobby Hill and Olif Tallman.

Funeral services will be held at the Timberlake Christian Church in Moberly, MO, on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 11:00 am with a visitation preceding the service starting at 10 am. The burial will follow in Shelbina Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO.  Memorials may be made to Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch.
