Mr. David Ralph Joseph
“Tanka Boy”
Mr. David Ralph Joseph (Tanka Boy) was born on September 12, 1950,
to the late Mr. David Brown and Mrs. Geraldine Blair Brown Williams. He
was adopted and raised by Mr. Willie (Hard Hair) Joseph and Maudra Mae
Johnson Joseph. David was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School,
Class of 1968. He was a devoted member of First Sixth Street Baptist
Church. David truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, and
he loved spending time with his family; he especially loved being with his
grandchildren. He served as an awesome Head Custodian for the First
Sixth Street Baptist Church.
While attending First Sixth Street Baptist Church, he was involved in the
following organizations:

MAD Ministry
Male Usher Board
Male Chorus
David was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Jean Joseph, parents,
Willie & Maudra Joseph, David Brown & Geraldine Blair Williams; son
Christopher Colby Joseph; brother Letho Jones Joseph; sisters, Barbara
Jean Joseph-Gray and Shirley Mae Joseph-Martin.
He is survived by his sons, David Frank (Nelva) of Port Arthur & Cory
Joseph of Houston; daughters, Sonya Joseph of Houston, Shenequa
Jones, Ebony Simpson, & Shanelle Lawson, all of Port Arthur; brothers,
O’Neil McCarthy of Houston, Grady Williams of Sacramento, Michael
Campbell of San Francisco Ca, sisters, Joan Davis Williams of San Francisco,
Ca, Sandra Taylor of Houston, Claudia Paige (James) of Spring,
Deborah Williams of Sacramento Ca, Jacqueline Ikeda of San Francisco
Ca; bonus children, Laquinta Carter and Warren Frank (Lakesha)
of Port Arthur; Special cousin Johnnie Mae Wright of San Francisco, Ca;
good friends, Glen McDaniel, Terry Dean, Catherine Soliaire all of Port
Arthur; partner Sandra McMurray of Port Arthur; 21 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives
and friends.
