Crystal Marie Melgoza Maddox, 38, of Houston, passed away peacefully Saturday July 30, 2022, with her husband by her side.
Crystal was born January 11, 1984 to Robert and Marie Melgoza in Houston, Texas, where she lived her entire life.
Growing up Crystal was a Mama’s girl, but also took after her Papi with a screwdriver in hand, ready to help. An only child for 5 years, she was always hanging on Mom’s skirt or sitting in Papi’s lap- she was their world. She shared a special bond with her Nanny, making sure to find her after school and on weekends.
Family was her everything. Being the older, doting sister to her brothers Jay and Anthony, gaining a sister when Malina joined the family, and becoming “Tita” to her nieces, Arabella, Serenity, and Penelope. She always had an open door with her family, especially for her brothers. Her table was their safe space - where they could go to decompress, to enjoy each others company, and they were certain she would be there for them no questions asked.
With a strong skillset in planning and organizing, she became the family organizer and party planner. Telling everyone “this is what we are doing” ensured the family would fall in line with her wishes. Her latest plan was celebrating Grace’s high school graduation and Claire’s completion of middle school.
After graduating from Cypress Falls High School, Crystal met Brandon at work, and they married August 1, 2009.
Her proudest accomplishment was being a mother to Grace, Claire, and Levi. A self pro-claimed “Mama Bear” she moved mountains for her children- advocating to provide the best for them in all things. She was very proud of all their achievements and enjoyed helping them with their dreams. Her latest passion was sharing her knowledge and experience with other parents to advocate for autistic children.
She LOVED camping and spending time outdoors with her family. Road trips with family and friends were one of her favorite things. She RV’ed from Texas to Delaware one summer in high school, and most recently a trip to Arkansas, where she conquered a hike to a waterfall. Crystal was ready to take on the next steps in life after battling and surviving breast cancer.
Her infectious laugh was a sure way to cheer up anyone having a tough day, and she was always ready for fun and shenanigans. Although a fierce fighter for what she believed in and extremely loyal to family and friends, she had a very calming and motherly presence to those that knew her. She always ensured those around her were attended to. She leaves behind many family, friends, and friends who are family- who will miss her dearly.
She is reunited in heaven with her baby; brother Jesus Angel Melgoza; Nanny - Esperanza (Martinez) Burton; Grandfather - Antonio Melgoza; and many others. She is survived by her husband Brandon Maddox; children Grace (18), Claire (14), and Levi (10); parents Francisco Robert and Charlotte Marie (Burton) Melgoza; brother James Melgoza and wife Malina; brother Anthony Melgoza; nieces Arabella, Serenity and Penelope Melgoza; Grandmother Guadalupe Villarreal and many other family and friends who love her.
Visitation and services will be held Thursday, August 4 from 5-8pm, with a rosary at 7pm at Klein Funeral Home 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, TX 77065. A funeral will be held Friday, August 5 at 2pm at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 19222 TX-249, Houston, TX 77070.
In lieu of flowers, a Fund is being set up for the children’s care. Donations can be sent to Marie Melgoza at 7710 Cherry Park Dr. T202, Houston, TX 77095.
Papi was her hero. Mom was her best friend. Her brothers her first babies. Brandon was the love of her life. And her children were her world.

Dear friend,
Enjoy the trip to heaven, I know it is the most beautiful sight we’ve ever experienced we’ll meet again when the time comes! We have you present in our memories, we’ll cherish every brief moment we spent with you, the laughs, the jokes, the serious conversations but one thing I’m sure all of us will remember, the selfless love you had for everyone!
Thank you for being you! God has an angel back in heaven
