Betty Lou Thompson, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa surrounded by family.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Steven Broers from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Betty Lou Brown, the daughter of Earl and Lillie (Westburg) Brown, was born on August 4, 1944, in Primghar, Iowa. She grew up in Primghar and graduated from Primghar High School in 1962. Following high school, she worked for department stores in the area.
She was united in marriage to Wade Thompson on May 15, 1977, in Primghar, Iowa. Betty was a homemaker for her family and later worked at a few department stores in the area. They lived in Sheldon, Iowa, and Sioux City, Iowa, before settling in Le Mars, Iowa.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed watching sports, playing cards, scrabble, and dancing. She also enjoyed collecting frog figurines, trying her luck at the casino, and was an avid Elvis fan.
Survivors include her husband, Wade of Le Mars, IA; children: Kris (Chuck) Levasseur of Sioux City, IA, Josh (Nicole) Thompson of Le Mars, IA, Laurie Schroeder of Sioux City, IA, Lisa (Mark) Lanning of Sioux City, IA, and Leslie Thompson of Hinton, IA; her sister, Karen Murphy of Springfield, MO; a special niece, Angie (Bill) Schilmoeller of Le Mars, IA; 17 grandkids; 15 great grandkids; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lillie Brown; her father and mother in law, Daniel and Jean Thompson; sister in law, Diane (Dennis) Dreckman; and two nephews, Scott Murphy and Wesley Pottorff.
