Bennie Joseph Janysek, 83, of Burnet, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2022. He was born to Edward and Susanna (Pawelek) Janysek on March 20, 1939 in Panna Maria, Texas, one of 9 children. Benny grew up in Gillett and Karnes city, spending many hours helping out on the family farm.
Bennie retired from USAA after a successful 35-year career, moving up through the ranks from a file clerk to a Systems Analyst. While Bennie loved his work and made many lifelong friends at USAA, his other true passion was carpentry. Most weekends, while working at USAA, and during his ‘retirement’, were spent working on building or remodeling homes, decks, sprinkler systems, fences, etc. No job was too large or too small for Bennie! Not only did he enjoy the work, he loved it when his children, grandchildren and even his sons-in-law came along to help him out. All of them recall memories of accompanying him in the early morning hours to spend the day helping out and learning the trade. Bennie loved the time with each of them, but he also enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge with them and occasionally a Polish phrase.
Bennie and and his wife, Joyce, moved to Burnet to build their retirement home on LBJ lake and have lived there for 21 years.
Bennie grew up catholic and after moving to Burnet, was a faithful member of Saint Charles Borremeo Catholic Church in Kingsland, Texas for many years. He was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Church Rectory and he received the Man of the Year award in 2009 from the St. Charles Men’s Club, recognizing his dedicated service to the Men’s club, the church and the community. He also spent many years as the president of the Longhorn Valley property owners association and was known as the man that could handle any job. Bennie loved volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and was house leader and spent many years working with this group.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joyce Howard; children, Karen Sturdivant and husband James of San Antonio, Texas, Kim Markgraf and husband Tim of Boerne, Texas, Kenneth Janysek and wife Janett of San Antonio, Texas and Stepson Stephen Abbott. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and stepson Terry Abbott.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bay, Texas with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30. Reverend Father Ruben officiating.
Bennie’s care is entrusted to Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, Texas 78639. (325)388-0008
