Michele DUGRÉ-BAZIN
1946 – 2025
After several years of a difficult and determined fight against a myelodysplastic cancer, Michele, surrounded by friends and family, passed away on February 27, 2025, at the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital of Cowansville.
Predeceased by her parents Alice Brodeur and Roger Dugré, she leaves in mourning her devoted husband Raymond Savoie; her two daughters Virginie and Frederique Bazin (Rob Adams); her much loved grandchildren Willaim and Eliott (Belley), Maxime and Lola (Adams); her son-in-law Robert and Annie Beliveau and their children Milann, Mikeli, Myrko and Mia; her two brothers Pierre Dugré (Johanne Pigeon) and Jean Dugré (Sara Corriveau) and their children; her nieces Chloé Moran-Dugré and Marie-Florence Crevier-Paradis; several cousins, her Savoie family in-laws, a large number of friends, and her cat Chicka.
Independent of spirit, she began a life of actively militating for women's rights and equality. Appreciated for her realism, she worked in key positions with several political party leaders in both Ottawa and Quebec. She played a major role in developing the public relations sector in Quebec and, together with André Sormany, she founded two PR firms (BDDS BLSV). She also was director general of magazines for Québecor, Vice President of Just For Laughs, responsible for government relations, and editor-in-chief of the magazine Première en Affaires and Vice-President government relations of the Conseil du Patronat du Québec. In 2016, she received the award for her life's work for the Réseau des Femmes d'affaires du Québec. She was also the author of more than 250 texts for television series and authored 4 books. Always very active in her community, whether in Montreal or Knowlton, she sat on several Boards including notably the CRSSS La Pommeraie, the Knowlton Theatre, the regional community radio CIDI 99.1, and in 2018 she founded the Knowlton Film Festival. On January 31, 2025, she received the Charles III Coronation Medal notably for her Brome-Missisquoi community work.
She will be remembered for her authenticity and frank opinions, her organisational talents and especially for the immense ability to earn and surround herself with lifelong friends.
The family wishes to warmly and sincerely thank Isabelle Caroline, Viviane, Marie-Hélène and Nancy, nurses at the BMP Hospital, to nurses at palliative care and particularly Nancy St-Aubin and Isabelle Bessette-Gagné, to the haemato-oncologist Jaques Laplante of the BMP, to Laurent Busque, hematologist, director of the Laboratory Clinic at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and professor at the Department of medicine at the University of Montreal, as well as to doctors Catherine Martineau and Sara Péclet.
Michele's body was given to the anatomical laboratory of the University of Sherbrooke's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The family will receive condolences on Saturday, March 22, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Désourdy Funeral Home, 101 rue Jean-Besré, Cowansville. J2K 0L3. 450-263-1212, www.desourdy.ca). A memorial ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Funeral Home.
